 The
University
Advising Center strives to provide quality advising to all freshmen and sophomores on an
individual basis. Advisors facilitate smooth transition to the university from high school,
community colleges or other universities. They provide effective developmental academic advising
to all freshmen and sophomores, special advising to non-degree seeking students, and advising for
pre-engineering programs. Advisors are active in student organizations and participate in
recruitment activities such as visits to area high schools as well as hold meetings with parents and
students. Advisors also make staff presentations during UWF open house sessions to explain
services to prospective students and their parents.
Advisors also:
- Act as liaisons between students and instructors and other university officials.
- Assist students in the selection of a degree program and career preparation.
- Assist students in planning a field of study that is consistent with their abilities and interests.
- Assist students with scheduling of classes.
- Check students' general studies requirements for graduation.
- Monitor academic progress for each freshman and sophomore.
- Provide early warning intervention (on a semester-by-semester basis) to students who may
be experiencing academic difficulty.
- Provide specialized academic advisement to freshman and sophomore athletes.
- Make referrals to appropriate campus resources for additional assistance.
- Provide accurate information about graduation requirements such as courses needed and
application deadlines.
If you are a freshman or sophomore at the University of West Florida and you need the assistance
